A Legacy of Leadership: Honoring the Presidents of ASCE

When Pat Natale arrived at American Society of Civil Engineers as Executive Director in 2002, the Society honored their Presidents by displaying portrait photos in the boardroom during their lifetime. Natale hoped to find a more lasting way to acknowledge Presidents’ leadership and achievements. When he discovered One Of A Kind Art Studio at an ASAE Expo, Natale initiated a longstanding tradition unique to ASCE: 3-dimensional art commemorating the history of the profession and featuring Presidents’ portraits, photoengraved in metal, as the centerpiece. The Rio Olympics bring back memories of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where USA TODAY presented One Of A Kind art to President Jimmy Carter and wife Rosalynn. What an exciting and inspiring commission! The artwork commemorates President Carter’s dedication to promoting peace and understanding worldwide since leaving The White House. USA TODAY Publisher Tom Curley unveiled the art, which still hangs in the Carter Presidential Library in Atlanta, Georgia—20 years later. (more…)

American Association of Justice, a longtime client, just presented One Of A Kind 3-dimensional art to their outgoing President Larry Tawwater. Mr. Tawwater has served on the Board of Governors of AAJ since 1988, chaired multiple committees and has been an Executive Officer since 2010. USA Rugby recently honored departing CEO Nigel Melville with One Of A Kind 3-dimensional art. Melville was at the helm of USA Rugby for 9-and-a-half years, the longest-tenured CEO in USA Rugby history. His leadership helped USA Rugby grow by leaps and bounds, culminating with both the Men’s and Women’s teams advancing to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the first Games to include Rugby in competition since 1924. Last night we were fortunate to attend the Newseum’s reception and program “1776-Breaking News: Independence” in Washington, DC. Featured was a 240-year old edition of The Pennsylvania Evening Post, the first to publish the newly adopted Declaration of Independence. This rare newspaper is on loan to the Newseum from David Rubenstein, business leader, philanthropist and co-founder of The Carlyle Group. (more…)
