Art we have created over the past 25 years for hospital anniversaries continues to communicate mission, values, and expertise during the unprecedented health challenges of 2020-2021. We honor the frontline caregivers who write a new chapter in their hospital’s history, with their sacrifice and lifesaving skills. And we hope their hospital’s lobby art brings good memories and inspiration as they revisit their legacy.
As scientists study how our physical environment affects us, we are learning that the art in hospitals is more important than we ever imagined. There is now a large body of research behind the selection of evidence-based art. This method of choosing artwork aims to help hospital administrators make decisions that are scientific rather than purely aesthetic. Some visual elements, particularly artwork that includes natural themes and people, have shown to be beneficial to patient recovery and staff morale.
