American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeon’s 75th anniversary art was unveiled at their annual meeting in San Francisco and reproduced as a commemorative brochure with descriptive key. The tree design was inspired by the AAOS symbol, the Tree of Andry—a crooked tree made straight. The roots showcase the Academy’s history and accomplishments. The strong trunk of the AAOS tree extends 10 specialty branches of orthopaedic surgery, with actual devices, past and present, incorporated. The piece is created with mahogany and birdseye maple woods. A timeline with yearly presidents is photoengraved in metal, surrounded by logos of national and international orthopaedic specialty societies. AAOS was awarded “Best In Show” along with many other awards by the American Society of Association Executives for their 75th anniversary commemoration.
