Lawrence Romorini celebrates the 30th anniversary of his One Of A Kind Art Studio visually—looking back on a portfolio of over 2,500 commissions, including Marriott, Oprah Winfrey, Johns Hopkins and ESPN, and selecting 30 three-dimensional collages that represent his life’s work of commemorating great American stories, both corporate and personal. It’s been an amazing journey for this small, independent art studio, located in Silver Spring, Maryland.

How Memorabilia Becomes Anniversary Art: Part 1

Lawrence and I often collaborate by phone and email with our clients and have wonderful long-distance relationships all over the country to create One Of A Kind art. But  there’s nothing like meeting in person—either at client headquarters or at One Of A Kind. So it was especially exciting to welcome Jess and Lisa, who travelled from New Jersey  to our studio to review and edit material for their 50th anniversary art. They brought so much enthusiasm and care for the organization—what a perfect team for the project. (more…)

30 Years of One Of A Kind Success!

It’s hard to believe that One Of A Kind Art Studio has now been creating our signature brand of 3-dimensional commemorative artwork for 30 years. The time has flown by. The studio began working out of the home of Founders Lawrence Romorini and Donna Rome, with USA Today’s 5th anniversary as the first corporate commission. The studio relocated in 1990 to resurgent Silver Spring, MD, just minutes from Washington, D.C Since then, over 1,100 custom works of art have been created for clients large and small (see the latest).

Looking back to 1985, it’s fun to reflect on some of the amazing events that happened that founding year, and our own connection to many of them. (more…)

A Salute to Flag Day and the 200th Anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner

As Flag Day is celebrated June 14, we remember how important the U.S. flag has been to many of our One Of A Kind recipients. And what a beautiful creation it is, offering a flowing, meaningful design element for Lawrence to incorporate.

Jack Kemp’s 3-dimensional commemorative collage was the very first to incorporate actual flags, suggested by Sharon Zelaska to symbolize the Congressman’s strong patriotism and service to his country. Over 25 years later, Jack Kemp’s tribute remains an all-time favorite for us and for many who view samples of our artwork. (more…)

May was major for the Swendiman family! Our good friends, Shelley and Robert Swendiman, both had cause to celebrate this month, with a marriage and a graduation taking center stage.

The wedding reception for Shelley and her husband Adam Stinelli was held at the Hillyer Art Space in Washington, D.C. It was great fun, surrounded by contemporary art, friends, family and food.  With their longtime fondness for Converse sneakers, Shelley and Adam wore custom versions for their ceremony and to the reception, of course.

AAOS CLIO presentation with Sandy Gordon

We’re ever grateful to Sandy Gordon for her extraordinary vision and leadership on the 75th Anniversary of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.  The AAOS 75th anniversary art, which resulted in a CLIO Award, was reproduced as a commemorative brochure, calendar cover, and an interactive website feature with descriptive key. It remains on prominent display in AAOS’s Rosemont, Illinois headquarters. The lobby art is just part of Sandy’s lasting legacy as she retires from AAOS after 15 amazing years of accomplishment! The Beatles’ U.S. Debut: 50th Anniversary and Memories of My Days at Northern Songs

Northern Songs Beatles Memorabilia

It is hard to imagine a better first job. When I joined ATV-Kirshner Music in London, direct from Columbus, Ohio and Ohio State, I knew little about music publishing, had no idea who Don Kirshner was and barely knew that Northern Songs owned the Beatles’ copyrights. But for the next 4 years—being a lover of music and something of piano player—this new, upstart ATV company, which had just purchased Northern Songs, proved a wonderful fit.  (more…)
